Positions available for neurobiologists, neuroanatomists, and cell
biologists to study (1) the pharmacological enhancement of neurogenesis and
associated learning and memory in animal models of autism, Down syndrome, and
Alzheimer disease, and (2) the role of intracellular regulation of protein
phosphatase-2A (PP-2A) in the Alzheimer type hyperphosphorylation of tau
protein. The positions are temporary (1-3 years) and are most suitable for
outstanding fresh graduates and postdoctoral fellows. Title and Salary:
Assistant Research Scientist, Grade 14; Annual Salary $38,433 plus location pay
($1,850) and fringe benefits. We are a group of ~15 neuroscientists,
studying the biology of Alzheimer disease and related disorders, and the role of
neurotrophic factors in neurogenesis and associated learning and memory. The
main focus of our research is (1) the molecular mechanism of Alzheimer
neurofibrillary degeneration with special reference to the role of intracellular
inhibitors of PP-2A in the regulation of the phosphatase activity and the
hyperphosphorylation of tau protein (see, e.g. Tanimukai et al. 2005, Am J
Pathol 166:1761-71; Tsujio et al. 2005, FEBS Lett. 579:363-372; Chohan et al.
2006, FEBS Lett. 580:3973-3979; Chen et al., 2008, J Biol Chem 283:10513-10521);
(2) the identification of subgroups of AD and development of CSF diagnostic test
of various subgroups of AD; and (3) development of drugs that can increase
neurogenic/neurotrophic activities and enhance learning and memory (Tatebayashi
et al., 2003, Acta Neuropathol (Berl) 105:225-232; Chen, et al., 2007, Neurobiol
Aging 28:148-1162).

The Department of Psychiatry has postdoctoral fellowship positions for both

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW/RESEARCH ASSOCIATE/ASSISTANT RESEARCH PROFESSOR POSITIONS
Two full-time postdoctoral associate/research associate/assistant research professor positions for 2-3 calendar years, funded through NIH grants, are available immediately in the Endocrine Program of Rutgers University. Duties for these positions include research to determine opioid receptor dimerization in immune cells and its impact on NK cell functions, to evaluate the effects of differentiated and undifferentiated neuronal progenitor cells on the neuroendocrine-immune system and on cancer cells, and/or to study the molecular mechanisms governing the circadian control of neuroendocrine functions in normal and fetal alcohol exposed adult rats. Candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in neuroscience or immunology. Research experience in rodent surgeries, brain transplants, histology, western blotting, receptor dimerization, and immunocytochemistry and/or cell cultures, real-time RT-PCR, cloning, and transcriptional and gel-shift assays are preferred. FACULTY POSITION

TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION

FACULTY POSITION IN BEHAVIORAL NEUROSCIENCE
The Department of Psychology at The University of Memphis invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level. DOUGLAS HOSPITAL RESEARCH CENTRE
Project Ice Storm, a longitudinal study examining the effects of prenatal maternal stress on children’s development, offers a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in research involving the use of structural MRIs to determine the extent to which the effects of PNMS on development are mediated by alterations in brain structure. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects this project: directing staff members, assuring data quality, conducting data analyses, preparing presentations and publications. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of human neuroanatomy. Research experience with children, a background in developmental psychopathology, and the ability to work in French will be assets. Salary is negotiable, but will be consistent with norms set by Canadian funding agencies. TWO POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS IN BEHAVIORAL GENETICS IN TORONTO, CANADA
Two postdoctoral positions are available immediately at the University of Toronto, Canada. The hiring laboratory focuses on the analysis of the effects of acute and chronic alcohol exposure in zebrafish. The laboratory uses a multidisciplinary approach involving novel behavioral test methods, random mutagenesis based forward genetics, and gene chip (microarray) analysis, as well as classical pharmacology. One postdoctoral fellow will have a strong behavioral neuroscience, behavioral pharmacology background, preferably in drug (alcohol) research, who would like to learn molecular techniques. The other postdoctoral fellow will be a molecular geneticist who will employ molecular approaches while learning behavioral neuroscience. The laboratory is funded by NIH/NIAAA (USA) and NSERC (Canada). It is located at the beautiful Mississauga Campus of University of Toronto (UTM) in a lush setting at the banks of the Credit River, 30 min from downtown Toronto. POSTDOCTORAL POSITION
A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Adrian J. Dunn (currently in the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Neuroscience at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, but will relocate in late summer to the University of Hawaii at Manoa). The project is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and involves the study of neurochemical mechanisms underlying the behavioral changes in chronically stressed animals, especially those involving corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and norepinephrine. The techniques to be used will involve in vivo microdialysis, and possibly also voltammetry. Applicants should have been trained in an area of neuroscience, with experience in small animal surgery, and preferably microdialysis and/or voltammetry.
