Membership
Membership in the Society is open to persons who have demonstrated a commitment to promoting and encouraging education and research with respect to Behaviorial Neuroscience. There are four categories of membership for which applicants may apply. Applications for Membership are reviewed by the Membership Committee and voted on by the IBNS Council.
Regular Membership: Regular members shall be limited to scientists, clinicians, or therapists who are actively engaged in research or practice of Behavioral Neuroscience. Applicants should have publications considered significant to their specialty in refereed journals in the field of Behavioral Neuroscience. It is the policy of the Society to limit Regular Membership to individuals holding a doctorate. Applicants must be approved by the Membership Committee and Council.
Postdoctoral Membership: Postdoctoral trainees are scientists who have recently received their Ph.D. (or equivalent) and are undertaking training in research. Usually, postdoctoral trainees are within 6 years from receiving their Ph.D. and are supported by non-tenureable scholarships/fellowships that can last from 1 to 3 years. Research assistants or research associates who are considered members of a laboratory/department/ institution and are paid as hired employees are not considered postdoctoral trainees.
Student Membership: Student members shall be persons enrolled full-time in a college or university program at the graduate or undergraduate level. Student members shall be voting members of the Society but may not stand for office in the Society. Student members will be required to verify their student status on a yearly basis, for example, by providing an electronic or hard copy of a letter from their supervisor or Dean. Applicants for Student membership must be approved by the Membership Committee and Council.
Affiliate Membership: All individuals interested in the Society's objectives but who do not meet the requirements for another membership category may apply for Affiliate membership. Affiliate members shall be non-voting members of the Society and may not stand for office in the Society. Applicants must be sponsored by two Regular members of the Society and be approved by the Membership Committee and Council.
